Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver relies heavily on the support of the surrounding community to help achieve their mission: to build decent affordable homes for low-income, hard-working families in the Lower Mainland.

Habitat Partner Families are the backbone of our communities. They are our teachers, paramedics, grocery store workers, and farmers.  Habitat’s goal is to provide these families a Hand Up not a Hand-Out, bringing an end to the cycle of poverty and setting future generations up for success.

Habitat Partner Families and the Housing Model

  • Habitat homes solve the challenge of financing a home by providing a pathway to homeownership.

  • Families are currently living in rental housing that is unsuitable (unhealthy, unsafe, overcrowded, overpriced)

  • They have an annual household income between $35,000-$78,000

  • Families are committed to completing 500 hours of ‘sweat equity’ (volunteer hours)

  • Families move into a Habitat home on a lease of up to 21 years, where monthly payments are calculated at 30% of Habitat Families' total household income

  • They receive financial literacy training on debt management, RRSP, and savings

  • When a family moves on to the open market (average 6-7 years), they will receive a % of their monthly payments back to use as a down payment on a house

  • A new family will move into the home and the positive cycle continues

It is only through the generous support of business and community partners that Habitat is able to build more homes, for more families, helping them to focus on thriving, not just surviving.  Quantum Properties are rallying our partners to help raise funds to build 40 homes in Coquitlam.
